keyboard repeat was broken for me as well.  If I enabled repeat in
gnome-keyboard-properties, I would immediately see 2 instances of any
keystroke, but no further repeating would take place.

Using gconf-editor, I then enabled repeat by hand.  Repeat began working
as expected, and a few other upgrade-issues with my desktop cleared up - Icons
in the Applications menu reappeared, etc.  Seems like gconf-editor did
some additional magic.
