OK, but is there a way to configure which printers are asked? Most users want
only to see the status of the printer in their room, not all ca. 30 printers
in our cups network, which seems to be the default. 
(A general option: "poll only the default printer for this user" would be
nice.)

There is a cupsd running on each machine. But it seems to forward the polling
to the cupsd which really servers the printer.
