Package: gconf2
Version: 2.8.1-4
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
I've taken the step of managing my $HOME in version control. This works
almost perfectly, the only issue being gconf.
GConf-using applications seem to have a habit of updating values in the
preferences database that have not really been updated. When this
happens, the "mtime" attribute of the "entry" tag is updated to reflect
the last time the value has been touched.
I'm not sure why this is; but in any case, it makes using
version-controlled home directories unnecessarily hard, because even a
logon modifies some GConf keys, so committing after logging on on two
different machines will always provoke conflicts.
It's not that I cannot live with occasional conflicts; but it'd be nice
if I could somehow disable the mtime attribute, if it does not have any
function. That would make it a lot easier for me.
