Package: metacity
Version: 1:2.6.3-1
Hi,
Since a few weeks I have changed my keyboard from belgian (azerty) to a US
(qwerty) one. I am using pc104/us_intl keyboard layout in X. Obviously, I
left my locale settings unchanged, they are still at nl_BE@euro as they
were before. (~/.gnome2/gdm lists "lang=nl_BE.ISO-8859-15@euro", I suppose
gdm expanded the locale alias before saving)
In almost any X11 app, I can either hit the ' (single-quote) or "
(double-quote, same key but with shift) key - it's the one next to the
enter key on this US keyboard - and I get the quote I want.
However, not so in a freshly spawn aterm window.
I soon discovered that this only happens in aterm windows which are spawn
through gnome, somehow - e.g. by using the menu entry, or the run command,
or an app-launcher on my panel. When I spawn another aterm from within an
existing aterm window, it works just fine.
Now since this morning I started using xfwm4 as my window manager, and lo
and behold I can spawn new aterms from the gnome panel or app-launchers as
much as I want, and they too work just fine, displaying quotes as I type
them (well, they're dead keys so the space is still needed obviously).
Apparently the buggy behaviour I saw before had something to do with gnome
spawn aterms _if_ using metacity.
Regards,
Filip
