Package: gdm
Version: 2.4.4.7-1
Severity: important

Since upgrading from 2.4.1.7, GDM insists upon beeping the console bell as soon as the graphical greeter
appears. As much as I looked, the config file gdm.conf does not seem to have an option to turn this off.

I therefore am filing this as an "important" bug, because a noisy GDM becomes a liability in several
circumstances, such as usage in a public library or in a family setting.

Only two possible cures can claim to close this bug, either:

1) recompile without the console bell (if it's a compile time option) or
2) document how to turn off this option (if it's a new gdm.conf option that is not yet documented).

If neither of those fixes are possible e.g. if it's a built-in hard-coded default since 2.4.4.7, I'd
then appreciate you forwarding this bug to upstream.

Thanks!
