Package: gedit
Version: 2.6.1-1
Severity: minor
Contrary to what the man page states, gedit does not accept data from a pipe. The man
page gives an example of: ls -l | gedit
When executed, it returns the following:
erik@nx9:~$ ls -l |gedit
(gedit:5545): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: file gdk-pixbuf-io.c: line 769 (gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file): assertion ilename != NULL' failed
(gedit:5545): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: file gdk-pixbuf-io.c: line 769 (gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file): assertion ilename != NULL' failed
(gedit:5545): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: file gdk-pixbuf-io.c: line 769 (gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file): assertion ilename != NULL' failed
(gedit:5545): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: file gdk-pixbuf-io.c: line 769 (gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file): assertion ilename != NULL' failed
(gedit:5545): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: file gdk-pixbuf-io.c: line 769 (gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file): assertion ilename != NULL' failed
(gedit:5545): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: file gdk-pixbuf-io.c: line 769 (gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file): assertion ilename != NULL' failed
Then the gedit window opens with an empty buffer.
Also note, that redirection DOES work: gedit < myfile.txt
