Yes. I launch my session using gdm.

[ftaiani] $ ps ax | grep gnome-settings
1240 ? S 0:00 gnome-settings-daemon
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon --oaf-ior-fd=23

Since I installed the system, three weeks ago. I'm using sarge
(testing). I dit a major upgrade today (apt-get upgrade) hoping for
improvements, but with no effects.

I dit it. It does not seem to have any effect (or do I have to reboot
for it to work? I only logged out my gnome session, and logged in again.)
