Okay, so, in fact, the reported issue is solved, but the fact was that
my already added main menu had this "main menu" text. Adding a new one
brings the proper japanese version.

It seems to me that it could be the same kind of bug as #247085.
It could be something like when you add the menu, it stores only the
current locale in the user "instance", thus, when switching locale, it
doesn't have translation.
