 at some recent bugreport (his suggestion in this bug file)

 after a while, i finally managed to get the time to look, and yep!

                    % dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig

 solved all of my problems with zenity, and other apps too are zippier

 for what it is of my concern,  this bug can be considered closed
