Well that's a little less puzzling, but the latest version of
gnome-media in sid is still only 2.4.1.1-3 and this is already
installed.

Perhaps the current gnome-applets 2.6 package has entered sid
ahead of some of the things that it depends upon and therefore
prematurely?
