Hi,

Not sure that's true. If you go in /usr/lib/menu and "grep png *" you
will get a bunch of results, these icons seems to be displayed fine in
the menu.=20
The policy says that icons should be xpm format but that's not a
requirement.

Yes, converting icon to xpm is allowed. BTW are you mass bug-reporting
all debian packages about this (just curious, I've just get a lot of
such bug reports) ?
