Package: capplets
Version: 1:2.4.0-7
Severity: normal
I upgraded my x86 system, running sid with GNOME 2.4, last night to
current packages. This morning I rebooted (to plug in my old, damaged
drive), and now when I try to start GNOME, it gets stuck at the splash
logo. Looking at the GNOME processes running, and looking at 'strace'
output for a few of them, I noticed that 'gnome-settings-daemon' was
blocking trying to connect to port 111 on localhost. I had portmap
running (limited to only accept connections on localhost). I tried
stopping it, removing the hosts.deny rule that limited connections, and
it still blocks trying to connect to port 111 on localhost. What's going
on?

Hi,
As Gnome has many stuff relying on network, it's mandatory to have
at least the loopback interace to run it. That's why I'm closing the
bug.
Also, concerning your question about PF_LOCAL sockets, you'd better ask
upstream for that, imho
Regards,
Arnaud
