Hi Sebastien,
I don't think that totem really needs to bother the user with the
question about the default video thumbnailer. Xine is still far
superior to gstreamer. The totem thumbnailer generally delivers far
better results than gst-thumbnail. I will change the debconf question
for nautilus-media so that it recommends to use totem-video-thumbnailer
if it is installed. I suggest that totem-video-thumbnailer be
registered unconditionally as default.

Description:
totem - A simple media player for the Gnome desktop (dummy package)
totem-gstreamer - A simple media player for the Gnome desktop based on gstreamer
totem-xine - A simple media player for the Gnome desktop based on xine
Closes: 235857 246058 252941
Changes:
totem (0.99.12-2) unstable; urgency=low
.
* Split the package, now we have:
- totem-xine using the xine backend.
- totem-gstreamer using the gstreamer backend (Closes: #246058).
- totem, dummy package depending on totem-xine (since it seems to be
a better default for the moment).
* debian/control.in:
- updated for the split.
* debian/patches:
- switched to dpatch.
* debian/rules:
- switched back to debhelper since cdbs doesn't support multibuild for
the moment.
* debina/template:
- removed debconf's template for the moment, gstreamer-media is not ready
to be a suitable alternative for thumbnails (Closes: #235857, #252941).
* debian/totem.1:
- removed, the manpage is included in the upstream tarball now.
