Package: gnomemeeting
Version: 0.98.5-8
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software
I've got a Bi-PIV-Xeon Compaq server with Debian kernel 2.4.26-1-686-smp
and two PCI-X video acquisition cards Viewcast Osprey 230, there's 1 Gb RAM.
We load bttv and force card to be Osprey 210/220 instead of the default
value of Osprey 200 by passing 89 as the card id (default is 88) at
module loading time
We use these video acquisition cards very intensively to stream day
long sessions with RealEncoder (HelixProducer 9) and have not
encountered a single problem so far beside HelixProducer
sometimes wasting his own memory. We do this almost every
day since September 2003.
Also when using these cards from xawtv there's not a single problem.
BUT when using gnomemeeting, even 30 seconds, this rottens the kernel
space and the machine finally crashes, even if we have quit gnomemeeting
since several minutes.
When trying gnomemeeting we can't even obtain the video, we still
see the green screen, and gnomemeeting complains about the palette
not being correct (this used to work perfectly with 2.4.18 IIRC, but
there has been lots of apt-get dist-upgrade since). We play a bit
with preferences, and then quit gnomemeeting.
Some minutes later, machine crashes

As you see I played with both the two cards.
Unfortunately I don't know how to save the kernel crashing message,
it isn't saved in kernel's log.
hoping this helps
bye

Problem was that old pwlib's v4l was having problems with bttv. This
should be fixed with libpt-plugins-v4l from experimental. (Still this is
a bttv cpu eating bug, not a GM bug)
If the problem reoccurs after fixing the system installation, please
reopen the bug.
