Bug#250393: gnome-applets: volume control ceased working

When upgrading to 2.6.1-2 from the previous eperimental version, the
volume control applet stopped working.  The slider always falls to the
bottom when I stop dragging it, and right-click on preferences just
gives me an empty box with no controlling channel to select.
