Bug#251335: nautilus: Desktop icons "turn to paper" after big upgrade

The relevant dpkg output is:
ii gnome-icon-the 1.2.1-2 GNOME Desktop icon theme

The problem I see is not that there are no icons, but that the Gnome MIME=20
system doesn't have any icons registered with it, so when nautilus requests=
=20
an icon for a file, none is given.
Even users with an empty home directory start off with a broken icon list.
