Just right-click on the file, open the properties, and change the
default program in the appropriate tab.

This is weird, it should be fixed with gnome-vfs 2.8.3-6 which you have
installed. Most MIME types now default to the GNOME application. Which
defaults are you getting set to KDE applications?
