"man gdm" says:

   For full documentation see the GNOME help browser  under  the
   GNOME  /  System section.

But it seems that the documentation is actually in the "Desktop" 
section, i.e. Footprint->Applications->Help then Desktop->
Gnome Display Manager Reference Manual.

Not sure whether it's the man page or Gnome help that is right, but they 
ought to be consistent.
