Package: balsa
Version: 2.0.17-2
Severity: important

I have tried several possibilities to use the VCARD address book, but
I can't convince balsa to use it to store email addresses.

PREREQ

~/.gnome/GnomeCard.gcrd is polulated and working
with "gnomecard" command.

STEPS

1. Open balsa
2. Settings => Preferences tab:[address books]

3. Select button [add], type in to opened dialog box:

   add new address book:
   [x] Vcard Address Book (GnomeCard)

4. Press button [forward], new dialog opens:

   Add Addres Book
   Address Book Name: GnomeCard.gcrd
   File Name: /home/foo/.gnome
[x] expand aliases as you type

   Press [Add] button

5. Press [Close] in main dialog

---

6. Select email message from panel

7. Right Click email => Store Address

   Press [Save] (Selected tab: Ffrom)

Error message is displayed:

   Cannot write to address book

FURTHER INFORMATION

/home/foo/.gnome is drwx for user and
GnomeCard.gcrd is --rw--r--r

The ownerships are correct.
No GnomeCard application is running at the time balsa was.

Dear Jari and Jean-Luc,

As of Balsa 2.2.5-2 in unstable, gnomecard (from the gnome-pim package)
can now be used to store/retrieve email addresses to/from again.

Thanks for reporting the original bug reports.

Cheers,
Andrew "Netsnipe" Lau
