Preliminary note: I've set LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 in /etc/default/gdm.

The date shown in gdm standard or graphical greeter is correctly
localized when gdm is launched (i.e. displaying something like
10月17日(日)午後2時40分), but as soon as the first update of the clock
occurs (when the minutes change), it gets an half localized look (i.e
displaying something like 日 10月17, 2:41 午後).
