Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.8.2-1
Severity: normal

The volume control applets is completely useless, since it doesn't have
a slider for the volume to control. This is the output of amixer:

> amixer | grep ^S
Simple mixer control 'PCM',0
Simple mixer control 'Surround',0
Simple mixer control 'Center',0
Simple mixer control 'LFE',0
Simple mixer control 'Side',0
Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0
Simple mixer control 'PC Speaker',0
Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
Simple mixer control 'Capture',1
Simple mixer control 'Input Source',0
Simple mixer control 'Input Source',1
Simple mixer control 'Softvol',0

The only control actually changing anything is the last one, "Softvol".
Now, in the volume control applet, when I click on preferences, I get
this list:

PCM
Speaker
In-gain
Digital-1

None of them works. And misteriously, it is a completely different list
than the one by amixer. What I of course would expect is to a) get the
same list of controls, and b) have at least the one control which
changes sound volume in it (Softvol), else it is totatlly useless.

gnome-applets depends on : gstreamer0.8-oss | gstreamer0.8-audiosink

This is needed to have oss support for the default sarge kernel.

Thanks for reminding me this point. Alsa is gonna be the default for
2.10.
