I recently installed synaptic, whose menu entry uses the command-line
`gksu -u root /usr/sbin/synaptic` to start synaptic with root
privileges.
Unfortunately, this does not work. After the password has been entered
(correctly or incorrectly), gksu crashes with a segmentation fault.
I tried the following variants:
$ gksu -u root /usr/sbin/synaptic
Segmentation fault
$ gksu -g -u root /usr/sbin/synaptic
Segmentation fault
$ gksu echo foo
Segmentation fault
$ gksu id
Segmentation fault
If I start synaptic from a terminal using `sudo`, it works fine, so the
problem seems to be with gksu.
gksudo seems to work, though:
$ gksudo id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root)

I upgraded to libgksu1.2-0 1.3.2-1 today, and the problem seems to be gone.
Thanks,
Julian.
