When gossip receives a message from any online contact, the message also
appears on the top of gossips window, forming a queue of new messages.
Messages from offline sources (e.g. Jabber mail gateway, or a
transported ICQ contact that appears offline) however do not appear in
this queue. For users without notification area (and note that the Gnome
in Debian comes without a notification area in its default
configuration), these messages are lost.
