Bug#345376: balsa: does no expunge mesaages

Balsa does not Expunge messages on exit even though I have marked 
that as a preference.
Admitedly I am a little confused by the option in the preference setting.
It says:

"Expunge deleted messages when mailbox is closed" 

Does that mean I have to also close the mailbox before I close the application?
