I have recompiled evolution 1.4.4-2 to run on Sarge as of a few days of go.
I rigorously followed all build dependencies, so it should work,
according to Policy 4.2:
If build-time dependencies are specified, it must be possible to
build the package and produce working binaries on a system with only
essential and build-essential packages installed and also those
required to satisfy the build-time relationships (including any
implied relationships). In particular, this means that version
clauses should be used rigorously in build-time relationships so
that one cannot produce bad or inconsistently configured packages
when the relationships are properly satisfied.
Indeed, for a few days, it did. And it works pretty well (once I set
GDK_USE_XFT=0, that is. And edited my gtkrc-2.0 to make the fonts sane.)
At some point, though (possibly due to an apt-get upgrade) it broke.
Now, I just get error messages telling me "Can't activate component
OAFIID: ..." for all of the components at startup (Mail_, Addressbook_,
Calendar_, and Summary_ShellComponent). "The error from the activation
system is: Unknown CORBA exception id:
'IDL:omg.org/CORBA/INV_OBJREF:1.0'
I have tried killev. No luck.
Eventually, after I killed the bonobo-activation-server it works again.
Assigning to both packages --- or at least trying.

Yeah. Doing so.
