When i use gedit `open', i get /home directory, not my $HOME, so normal
users can't get their files.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux sarge, libc6 2.3.2.ds1-13 & Xfce4

 But you still have the problem???

 I am closing this bug for now, if you want to report the FileChooser
 problem, report a bug explaining in details the permissions of your
 directories and the behavior you are wishing in a bug report on
 libgtk2.0-0.
