I tried to reproduce the problem with gedit 2.8.2 just now and failed to
do so (it seems to be fixed).

To be honest, I had deactivated the auto-save feature after reporting
the bug and only reactivated it now, so it could have been already fixed
in earlier versions (between 2.6.2-1 and 2.8.2-1).
