Package: gedit
Version: 2.6.2-1
Severity: important
When the autosave feature is used, and a file is "saved as", it seems to
continue to autosave the old filename in addition to (the expected behavior)
to save the new filename. This can seem unimportant but it can cause (has caused)
data loss in some circumstance. I *think* the circumstance of this dataloss was
when I reopened the "old" filename and modified it: gedit seemingly kept
autosaving the old version of the file (as if it was still open), thus
loosing my modifications. hmmm, this probably isn't that clear so...
Say I am editing "aaaa.tex", it gets autosaved regularily as expected.
I save "aaaa.tex" (let's call it aaaa.tex version 1) and then
"save it as" "bbbb.tex". This new file now gets autosaved
as expected, BUT "aaaa.tex" keeps being saved too asif it was still open.
Then, I reopend "aaaa.tex" (in parallel to editing
"bbbb.tex" but this is probably irrelevant), and I modify it. The "aaaa.tex"
file is then regulary saved but, NOT the version I see on the screen.
It is the version 1 from above that is saved!
I hope it's clear now... (tell me if it's not, I'll try to reexplain)
