I've just installed sarge with the desktop task, which installs the
gnome package and all its dependencies, including gnome-cups-manager.
When I log in, I get an error dialog: "Could not start the printer tray
icon, because the CUPS server could not be contacted."
The problem is that this machine has no CUPS, because I did not choose
to install the print server task. I think in this situation, gnome
should refrain from wibbling about CUPS servers. The user just installed
a big collection of software that happened to include a "printer tray
icon"; if they choose not to install a print server too, they probably had
good reason.
If there is a package I can have tasksel install, that does not involve
installing a whole CUPS print server, that will make this dialog go
away, I'll do it. I'd just not have tasksel install gnome-cups-manager
unless a print server was also installed, but the gnome metapackage
depends on it.
