 Debian takes care of any steps necessary to solve your problem usually.
 Here the GNOMe maintainer is kind enough to intercept the requests
 before they happen...  :)

 Still, if you can report to upstream directly, that saves time to the
 Debian maintainer when it's non-Debian specific.
