Package: gnome-panel
Version: 1.4.0.4-4
Severity: wishlist

The switch glows green when connected, yellow while connecting.
It would be nice if it glowed red to indicate that the modem
device to be used was present.

Explanation: On a laptop a PCMCIA modem can be inserted and removed
and cardmgr will create and delete a symbolic link from /dev/ttySx
to /dev/modem (or whatever the user chooses in the config file);
so the existence of /dev/modem signals the availability of the modem.
Something similar is true for the host-supported modem on my ThinkPad
600: the modem support daemon create a symbolic link when started and
deletes it when stopped.
