[This message should be encoded in UTF-8; if reportbug messes it up,
I'll send a followup message with proper mime headers.]
My LANG is set to "ja_JP.UTF-8", so the clock-applet uses a localized
time/date format. However, the format it uses is really weird --
non-standard, and actually rather hard to read.
Here's what it looks like:
=E6=9C=A8 6=E6=9C=88 2, 6:27 =E5=8D=88=E5=BE=8C
Notice the that the "2" (the date) is follow simply by a comma which
makes it run together with the time; japanese dates are normally
followed by "=E6=97=A5", which helps greatly in reading them. This funny
format looks like it's just the standard U.S. format with the words
translated.
Looking at an old screenshot (from August 2004), I see that the Gnome
clock-applet used to use a better and more standard format for
Japanese-localized date/time:
6=E6=9C=88 2=E6=97=A5 (=E6=9C=A8), =E5=8D=88=E5=BE=8C 6:27
I think it would be better if the clock-applet switched back to the
older format.
Thanks,
-Miles

Ok, closing for now. Reopen the bug (or mail me) if necessary.
