i have just tried using a new user (still on powerpc):

- login, fire up gconf, change focus to sloppy.
- fire up the keyboard shorcut editor, bind fullscreen toggle to alt+f11
- open a terminal, make it fullscreen pressing alt+f11
- come back to gconf, open the about box

and the flickering comes up again.
