Bug#299520: gnome-panel uses 100% cpu

On logging in, the cpu gets pegged.  Top shows gnome-panel consuming all
cpu.  I had to kill it to get any work done.  2.8.2-1 didn't give me
this problem.  This upgrade did pull in a whole bunch on gnome stuff
simultaneously, though.

In .xsession-errors, I have:
