Yes, this helps (but as I am not GNOME user, I have had no idea of "registers" 
in gnome).

But IMHO it should be the default behavior, or at least be in nautilus 
preferences dialog. It is run by non-GNOME users when using firefox. Do they 
really have to change some f***ing GNOME "registry"?
Changing the command used by firefox is (unfortunately) also not trivial.
Intuitive behavior is IMHO, that when an application shows window with close 
button, the button really closes it.
