Subject: alleyoop: GConf error and segmentation fault
Package: alleyoop
Version: 0.9.0-2
Severity: normal

After upgrading from sarge to etch, alleyoop does not work for me
any more. On startup, I get the following message on the command line:

GConf Error: Type mismatch: Expected `string' got `bool' for key
/apps/alleyoop/valgrind/memcheck/leak-check
Speicherzugriffsfehler

"Speicherzugriffsfehler" is the standard way of saying "segmentation
fault" if your language is set to German.

I guess the problem is that the data type of the GConf entry changed
between version 0.8.2 and 0.9.0, even though this should not cause
the program to segfault.

Executing
  gconftool --unset /apps/alleyoop/valgrind/memcheck/leak-check
solves the problem for me.

Best regards,
  Zeno

Hi there,

I don't know how you managed to make this happen, as 0.9.0-2 already
included a patch to appropriately migrate the gconf keys whose type was
changed. That is, if you had a boolean key set to True, after the
upgrade you'd get a "true" string. The patch makes alleyoop handle this
at startup, correctly changing "true" to "yes" and "false" to "no".

If this happened, it was temporary unstable breakage: now there's a
clear upgrade path from sarge, working perfectly here (upgrading from
0.8.2-3.1 to 0.9.0-{2,3}). Hence, I hereby close this bug report now.

Thanks for filing it! =)
