 I ran lircd --driver=udp --device=1234 -n in a clean sid chroot, and
 running sid's totem caused some client connections / disconnections to
 happen in the lircd logs.

 I suppose it might be due to your lirc setup.

 This problem is probably not specific to totem-xine or totem-gstreamer.
