In a certain way, yes, but I remarked that you *can* pipe to gedit if it 
is *already* running. That's what I tried to tell you in my first 
message but English is not my first language so please excuse me.
To summerize: run gedit first, then pipe to it.

So, it would be better if you have not to run gedit first before pipe to it.
