I use an ADSL pay-per-use connection at home;
I upgraded from sarge to etch, and I found that modemlights_applet
has been deleted in favour of a new modem_applet.

The new modem applet is completely useless for me !

I cannot configure it to PPPoE as the backend .
It would be enough if the applet would have a GUI with a radiobutton
to supersede all the nice-but-useless detailed configurations and
let me enter just a 
"start script" "pon provider"
"stop script" "poff"

ps: this bug is listed as  "wishlist" but it should be "normal" since:
 'wishlist' is "suggestions and requests for new features."
 whereas this is bug is not a new feature we are requesting, but rather 
 an existing feature that was lost
