Package: gnome-cups-manager
Version: 0.17-3
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

Thanks for packaging gnome-cups-manager!

I'm trying to configure a CUPS remote printer using the nice druid of
gnome-cups-manager. However, I'm quite puzzled at the request of the
URI for the printer.

I do not recall the exact syntax for IPP URIs, and I remember that the
web-based lpadmin interface provided a list of examples with reasonable
defaults to show it.

Ideally, the program should allow for some easy construction of the uri,
like asking for the server name then browsing printers, if possible.
The while point of a graphical interface should be not needing to
remember things or at least not needing to remember rarely used
syntaxes.

However, without implementing printer browsing or such, it would greatly
help just adding some URI examples in that druid page.

The ones from the CUPS admin web interface, for example, are:

    file:/path/to/filename.prn
    http://hostname:631/ipp/
    http://hostname:631/ipp/port1
    ipp://hostname/ipp/
    ipp://hostname/ipp/port1
    lpd://hostname/queue
    socket://hostname
    socket://hostname:9100

Bye,

Enrico

This bug was addressed upstream by the addition of a tooltip with
sample URIs. I'm closing this bug, please reopen it if necessary.
