Hi,
I haven't yet investigated this a lot, but this is what I see:
You can't specify a printer in gedit: strace shows
it always execs lpr -Plp
If you specify custom command in a script, it says:
** (gedit:8563): WARNING **: Opening '/tmp/bla.sh' for output failed
I find it a bit strange that this bug is in this package ... maybe you
have a clue ? We didn't see this bug until we upgraded the package a
few days ago (however, we may have had a very old gedit version).
Print system is lprng.

I'm closing the bug, as these libs entered testing in 2.10.

Unstable moves automatically to testing, so we always do the work in
unstable and let it stabilize for testing which becomes stable. If a
bug isn't caught in unstable, nor in testing, it might end in stable,
where updates are very rare. Only very important fixes / crashes are
fixed in stable, and of course security issues.
