Gnumeric does no longer have a bonobo component. Seems it got disabled
in version 1.4:

Since there is no bonobo component anymore, Gnumeric can not
be used with mozilla-bonobo.

Mime types can not be added manually, mozilla-bonobo tries to
automatically detect all mime types for which a viewer component is
available.

Yes, with the caveat that under some circumstances firefox will not
detect that mozilla-bonobo's mime types have changed. In that case,
the workaround described in the "configurability" section of the README
is applicable.

In any case, this particular problem is related solely to the fact
that Gnumeric does not ship a bonobo component any more.
