Yes, of course. I'm just trying to figure out the nature of the bug.

As you are using OSS, is GStreamer set up to use OSS? Start
gstreamer-properties and see if it's set to use "OSS Open Sound
System". 

Also, make sure your system have registered the oss gstreamer plugins, 
by running "gst-inspect-0.10 | grep ossaudio" from a terminal.

Maybe you can also try starting gnome-volume-control from a terminal and
see if there are any error messages.
