        Hi,

This is a followup for Debian bug <http://bugs.debian.org/208722>.

The gnome-vfs package has seen a long depends/recommends ping-pong on
fam, the current status is that gnome-vfs recommends fam (even that
might be too strong would package managers truly respect recommends:),
and the proposal is that packages using gnome-vfs' fam related APIs
should simply depend or recommend fam. While it's a bit far-fetched, I
think it's acceptable for now, but I'd rather see FAM fixed to:
 - work without portmap
 - don't cause as much I/O (fam doesn't support inotify)

The situation isn't too bad in that portmap can be bound to 127.0.0.1
only now, and since gamin can replace fam and doesn't require portmap
nor cause as much I/O (it supports inotify).

The only part of this bug which remains is the "apps requiring fam
support in gnome-vfs should depend on fam". Since all that I can
imagine for this is nautilus and gnome-panel, I'm cloning the bug
against these. I don't like the idea of letting meta-gnome2 depend on
it though, as I feel this is a kludge, even if it would work.

   Cheers,
