Bug#370408: totem-xine: Totem ignores user's .asoundrc and
/etc/asound.conf during 5.1 sound playback

Package: totem-xine
Version: 1.4.1-1
Severity: important
On my system, I have to use the following .asoundrc in order to get 5.1
playback to play properly through my headphones:
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}
Totem 1.2.1-3 would play DVDs using a digital 5.1 soundtrack (mainly
Dolby Digital soundtracks) properly: it would mix all channels
(including, most notabley, the center channel) into the left and right channels
during playback. Without the above .asoundrc, all channels aside from
the front left and front right channels would be dropped.
With totem 1.4.1-1, playback acts as if I don't have the above
.asoundrc: all channels aside from front left and front right are
dropped. That includes the center channel, so I cannot hear dialog
during movies unless I play the 2-channel Dolby surround track, which
usually has noticably worse sound quality.
So I'm forced to revert to 1.2.1-3 in order to get a decent DVD playing
experience from Totem.
Note that it appears to ignore /etc/asound.conf as well. That is,
putting the above in /etc/asound.conf appears to make no difference.
