For gstreamer 0.8 I had to force the sink to "alsasink device=hw:0" in order to get audio output. I'm not an ALSA expert, but it looks like a similar case, so please try the following as a regular user:
$ gconftool-2 --type string --set /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosink "alsasink device=hw:0"
For backup purposes you might actually want to do the following before you override the previous value:
$ gconftool-2 --get /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosink
