It's obvious, now I remember that sessions exist...

Anyway, in this case wouldn't it be more user friendly for the session
manager to ask if the apps should be restarted automatically, whenever
they get killed, instead of restarting them unconditionally ?

I suppose this would relate to the gnome session manager...
