Bug#330632: nautilus: thumbnails are created for files larger
than the specified maximum size

Since nautilus 2.10, the file size limit only applies for images. This
change is purely intentional, as the thumbnail generation for a video
isn't affected by the file size.
I don't think upstream will go back on this change. However, there are
other solutions to your specific problem. I think it should be possible
to deactivate the preview on removable media, and I'll make a request in
this direction.
