Bug#392907: Random system crashes with gconf2 installed

When I have gconf2 installed. My machine either crashes or randomly
reboots several times every day. As soon as i remove gconf2, the
crashes start. I am not a gnome user, the only reason gconf2 was
installed on my system was becuase I was using evince. I tried removing
all the directories in $HOME starting with '.g' but it didn't make a
difference. The thing that makes me point this bug at gconf2 is
firstly, that with gconf2 (and libgconf2-4) removed, My machine seems to
stay up indefinately, and secondly, when I restart, and check syslog,
the last thing logged always looks something like this:
