The bug still exists. To type capital letters I have to use
capslock.

$ dpkg -l | egrep "(gdesk|xorg)"
ii  gdesklets                          0.35.3-4+b1
ii  gdesklets-data                     0.35.5-1
ii  libglu1-xorg                       7.0.23
ii  xserver-xorg                       7.0.23
ii  xserver-xorg-core                  1.0.2-10
ii  xserver-xorg-input-evdev           1.1.2-1
ii  xserver-xorg-input-kbd             1.0.1.3-2
ii  xserver-xorg-input-mouse           1.0.4-3
ii  xserver-xorg-input-synaptics       0.14.6-1
ii  xserver-xorg-video-ati             6.5.8.0-1

Please let me know how I can help. It seems, that xkb is manipulated
running gdesklets daemon.
